About The Saranap Community In Lafayette, California

Saranap (formerly Dewing Park) is a census-designated place (CDP) in central Contra Costa County, California. It is bordered on the south and east by portions of Walnut Creek (including the gated senior residential development Rossmoor) and on the north and west by Lafayette. It is located at an elevation of 180 feet (55 meters). Saranap’s ZIP code is 94595, but the residents’ addresses mail to “Walnut Creek, CA” because that is the postal designated city name. The area code for the community is 925. Saranap has a population of 5,202 people according to the 2010 census.

The name of the community stems from a commuter rail system that operated in the early twentieth century. Sara Napthaly, the railroad developer’s mother, was honored with a local station near the intersection of Tice Valley Boulevard and Olympic Way. Although the train was a standard regional rail line, this developer pushed it to increase the value of property developments, resulting in a development pattern that looked like a trolley car suburb.

The parish of St Mary’s Church is a varied group of people with a wide range of backgrounds and

experiences. The Elementary School and Faith Formation Program are both important parts of the parish’s life, preparing each other for the future while also recognizing its current blessings.

They reach out outside their parish to offer assistance and support to those who are less fortunate through social outreach initiatives, particularly their food pantry sponsored by the parish and St. Vincent de Paul.

Parks, Schools & Other Points Of Interest In Saranap Community In Lafayette, California

Saranap community is also home to some amazing parks, public libraries, and schools for its citizens to enjoy.  These facilities are all world-class, beautifully maintained, and clean so residents of surrounding communities often visit to enjoy them.  Here’s a short list all located in the Saranap community:

Parkmead Elementary School in Walnut Creek was established in 1948 in an area where agriculture was being phased out to make way for suburban development. It’s currently only a 10-minute walk from a vibrant downtown that has evolved into the San Francisco East Bay region’s cultural core. The school’s central position makes it a perfect starting point for exploring the Bay Area, including the city’s wildlife museum, many living history sites, and the region’s main performing arts center, all of which the school frequents. Due to low attendance, the governing board decided to close the school in 1985. In 1989, Parkmead reopened with 324 students.

Parkmead School has grown to its current enrollment of roughly 450 TK-5 pupils in the years since it reopened. There are four classroom wings, an administrative wing, and an active child-care center on the wide property. The campus also has play structures and 4 acres of lawn and fields that are used by organized youth sports teams and local families during non-school hours.

Tice Creek is unusual in the Walnut Creek School District since it is the only K-8 school and uses Project Based Learning as its distinctive technique. Students are challenged to work on real-world challenges with real-world outcomes when Common Core State Standards are taught through Project Based Learning (PBL). Students must use the four C’s of 21st-century learning in this process: collaboration, critical thinking, creativity, and communication. Classes frequently solicit the help of an industry expert to educate students and provide feedback on attempted projects as they study a central subject. Each PBL course culminates in a product or consequence that is frequently presented to a live audience. Students are invited to participate in the inquiry cycle throughout this process.
